The experiment involved 15 animals with different levels of training. Some of them had previously been trained to detect diseases, mold or insects by smell.

During the test, the dogs were offered samples of various liquids and were asked to determine whether they contained eucalyptus secondary distillate. By gradually reducing the concentration of the latter, the scientists found that the dogs successfully detected the presence of eucalyptus in the range of 1-10 molecules per 1 ml of liquid.

During the experiment, the insects had to solve tasks similar to those offered to monkeys as well. For example, they were shown several cups, one of which contained a treat, and since one of the cups was always empty, a logical conclusion about the location of the reward could be drawn from this.

126 species of birds are virtually “lost” to science, as they have not been observed in the wild for decades. But it is too early to recognize them as extinct: small populations probably still live in remote areas.

There are 11.8 thousand species of birds known on our planet. Experts have analyzed over 42 million photos, video and sound recordings on the basis of the collection of the ornithological laboratory at Cornell. It turned out that about 1% of the creatures have not been recorded for a long time.

For example, the Jamaican paurak, the copper-colored spiny-tailed hummingbird and the New Caledonian lorikeet have not been observed for a century and a half. And the Papuan creeper had not been seen for about 13 years.

Some breeds of dogs are believed to be more aggressive than others. But, as researchers have found out, not only breed plays a role here. As the experiment demonstrated, the “meanest” dogs are old and small unsocialized male dogs. But experts have found that a number of breeds are still characterized by a greater propensity to aggression.

Finnish experts, having studied about 9 thousand pets (20 breeds), found out that small dogs are angrier than medium and large ones. Male dogs are also more aggressive than female dogs, even if they are neutered. The experience of the owner and upbringing also affect the bitterness of dogs. And also dogs that spend a lot of time with tribesmen, differ less aggressive behavior.
